Independence Day Lecture
This year’s Independence Day Lecture at Vidyajyoti was delivered by Ms. Arora, Advocate in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court. She is also actively involved in various citizens’ forums in Delhi that engage in issues of secularism, labour and women’s rights.
She dwelt on the freedom of religion. She explained how religious freedom is inalienable to everyone in India. She emphasized that government not only has the duty to protect but to ensure that religious freedom is exercised freely by every citizen.
She accentuated that every citizen especially minorities need to make use of every provision in the Constitution to ensure their fundamental rights by exercising the legal provisions available for us in case of violation. Minorities need to make use of the various social media, FaceBook, Twitter, Whasapp, etc. to express their opinions aloud to a larger audience.
