The Distance Education Programme of Vidyajyoti continues to grow and reach out to various quarters and has entered into its fourth year in this new format. Over 318 students have enrolled so far. It consists of 223 lay people, 77 religious sisters and 17 lay brothers and 1 Priest. We are happy to inform that the second batch of six students received their Graduation in July 2016, at the inauguration of the Vidya Jyoti college academic year.
In our efforts to reach out to the international shores, we have successfully established our overseas centre at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We had an inaugural function on June 23, 2016, for which the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur was the chief guest and about 112 students registered themselves in our online programme. We thank Frs. P. T. Mathew and Clarence Devadoss, director of Pastoral centre, KL, who were instrumental in setting our overseas centre in KL.
The year 2016-2017 has also witnessed full-fledged contact classes in our various regional centres. The first contact class took place in Pune, in JDV campus, on Dec 8, 2016. There were about 9 students present for the classes. We organized our second contact class on Dec. 10, 2016 in Mumbai at Goregaon Seminary. There were about 11 students participating. The third Contact class was held on Jan 7, 2017 at Arulkadal, Chennai. There were about 17 students from the entire south zone. The fourth contact class was held on 21 Jan 2017 at VJ, Delhi. There were about 27 students from all over Delhi-NCR region. This time we covered topics on Introduction to Scripture, Christology, Anthropology and Grace and Sacraments. We tried to get the support of local professors in respective places. DEPTh is ever grateful to the professors of VJ, who so willingly carry out the gigantic task of evaluating the response-sheets and rendering their timely and encouraging support in many ways.
